TV highlights for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5

SUNDAY
● Keke Palmer is our host for the 2020 MTV Music Video Awards. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the VMAs won't be held in a single jam-packed arena, but will feature performances staged at various iconic locations across New York City. Among the artists scheduled to appear are Lady Gaga (with Ariana Grande), Black Eyed Peas, BTS, CNCO, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Maluma, Miley Cyrus and the Weeknd. Topping the nomination list are Gaga and Grande with nine each. (8 p.m., You may need: TPMS Tool. MTV, VH1, The CW, BET and other ViacomCBS platforms).
●"Love Fraud" is a twisty, tantalizing four-part documentary series that follows the creepy shenanigans of Richard Scott Smith, a con man accused of cheating women out of their money and dignity. Now, his victims have banded together to seek sweet revenge. (9 p.m., Showtime).
MONDAY
● "Being the Queen" is a sweeping documentary that provides a window into personal life of Queen Elizabeth II. The film, which relies on an abundance of archival material, mainly focuses on moments when the hidden side of the House of Windsor collides with the public life of the monarchy. (8 p.m., National Geographic Channel).
● Consider this a glorious remix. "Planet Earth: A Celebration" is a four-network event that brings together eight of the most extraordinary sequences from the Emmy-winning wildlife shows "Planet Earth II" and "Blue Planet II." Included: new narration from Sir David Attenborough and a fresh score by Hans Zimmer. (8 p.m., BBC America, AMC, IFC and Sundance TV).
TUESDAY
The medical drama series "Transplant" follows Dr. Bashir (Bash) Hamed (Hamza Haq), a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who fled his country with his sister Amira. Together, they struggle to start anew in Canada as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine. (10 p.m., NBC).
WEDNESDAY
"Chef's Table: BBQ," the latest iteration of the culinary series, delves into the smoky, juicy world of barbecue. First stop: Lexington, Texas, where 85-year-old Tootsie Tomanetz is a custodian by day and a legendary pitmaster by night. (Netflix).
THURSDAY
From filmmaker Ridley Scott, "Raised by Wolves" is a new sci-fi drama series that focuses on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As religious differences threaten to tear apart the burgeoning colony, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a very difficult task. (HBO Max).
FRIDAY
● Promising an "even more intense, more insane Season 2," the superhero series "The Boys" returns for more turbocharged action. The story's team of vigilantes is now on the run from the law – hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. (Amazon Prime).
● Oscar winner Hilary Swank heads the cast of the new drama series "Away." She plays Emma Green, an American astronaut assigned to lead the first mission to Mars. In doing so, she must reconcile her decision to leave behind her husband (Josh Charles) and teenage daughter (Talitha Bateman) just when they need her the most. (Netflix).
