Pizza Hut Detroit-style pizza: Here's my official taste test

There's a new pizza rolling out nationwide Tuesday, and it's putting the famed Detroit-style pizza in the spotlight.
Pizza Hut has launched its own take on Detroit-style pizza nationwide, what the chain called its biggest launch for 2021. Though it will be offered only for a limited time, David Graves, Pizza Hut chief brand manager, said it could become permanent.
Pizza Hut officials say they created a Detroit-style pizza because of the growing popularity of the Detroit-born iconic style. And customers were requesting it.
"Detroit-style is the fastest growing trend in pizza and no longer a Midwest thing, it's a national trend, Autel MaxiIM IM608 $2899
. " Graves said in a virtual Jan. 15 taste test of the pizza.

The Detroit style took a year to develop. Pizza Hut tried more than 500 iterations in creating it. Tests also were done in the Midwest.
True to the traditional Detroit style, Pizza Hut's version is rectangular. The cheese is spread all the way to the edges to get that crispy, caramelized crust. Toppings are added and, again true to Detroit-style, the sauce is ladled on top.
Ahead of the launch I sampled the Detroit Double Pepperoni that was delivered to my home. It smelled wonderful and looked delicious.
The pizza comes in its own specially designed rectangular box with "Detroit-style" on it. That's pretty cool.
Also, on the box is a graphic of the pizza with lines pointing to each layer explaining what makes it Detroit-style. There are the crispy cheese edges, 50% more cheese and it's all the way to the edges, the loaded toppings and the vine-ripened tomato sauce ladled in two lines on the top.
"We wanted people to understand what makes a Detroit-style pizza special," Graves said.
The double pepperoni has regular sliced pepperoni and the crispy cupped pepperoni. And there's a lot of them - a total of 80 slices. There are 48 of the crispy cupped and 32 regular pepperoni slices.
The cupped pepperoni is the one that curls up as the pizza bakes, develops crispy edges and often there's a little puddle of oil.
When it arrived at my home, it looked the same as most Detroit-style pizza. I loved the two different pepperonis and that there was a lot of them.
It had that tomatoey aroma but it was a little too much sauce for my liking. The tomato flavor was strong. This new tomato sauce is available only on the Detroit-style.
The crust was what expected. It was thick, a little chewy but not heavy, and airy in the center. It also had the lacy edges.
Three other styles are available beside the Detroit Double Pepperoni:
Pizza Hut's Detroit-style comes just ahead of the Feb. 7 Super Bowl, a popular and busy time for pizza places.
